Embracing your web audiences

Surviving online today requires the world leading Search Engine Optimisation or paying a small fortune to our friends at Google....

Then of course, you need to monitor your expenditure and see what all that traffic is doing on your site. The tools used to do this are called web analytics systems. There are millions of them - so where do you start? Google Analytics is a good place. It's free and full of great features. Actually, it'd probably do the job well for most sites... But some companies are a bit different and have specialist needs. Take Squiz, we're a B2B company looking to sell Open Source Content Management Systems. Our needs are a bit different. We don't need to analyse a shopping cart or booking system. We want to know what our key prospects and clients are looking for on the site and whether they're getting enough of it.... In a simple interface that lets our Consultants respond with timely and accurate information. So we've plumped for something slightly different. It's called Opentracker.

We don’t just use Open tracker on a daily / weekly basis. It's a part of the way we work. We monitor it for interaction with clients and prospects on an hourly basis. We can see which of our key clients have logged on to download our latest white paper and, if they've asked us to, send them some follow up information. Check this out:

It gives us all we need to know to be able to ensure that customer or prospect is getting the information they need.

So this one works for us but what if you are interested in analysing that shopping cart? Well, you've got some comparing to do. And here's a fanatastic place to start. http://manojjasra.blogspot.com/2007/03/ultimate-web-analytics-comparison.html.
