OK, so it's a public holiday here in the UK and we're gonna celebrate by giving you a Seth Godin weekend.
This man is pure gold. He speaks sense and he's one of the reasons why I love my job at a time when the web is changing many of the traditional ways of doing business/marketing/communications.
One of Seth's brainspawn is This is Broken - a user-contributed site that draws attention to usability flaws in on- and off-line graphic, product and service design.
Designing for usability is an art. There are university courses that teach it, but in my book good designers (or creators) are experienced people who have a good gut feeling for the way their various schemes work.
For those of us working in web design, where the ground is usually new and unpredictable, the This is Broken web site is a good reference point. It's a treasure trove of good and bad usability examples. So, if you'd like to hear Seth's views on what makes good usability design and what makes bad, then I urge you to watch this video clip of him in action at this year's GEL (Good Experience Live) conference.
Aside from being full of wisdom, his presentation is just plain funny. Like I say, the guy is gold.
....and if this floats your boat, then check out the other speakers from the event and this book from 37 signals.
...and there'll be more from Seth tomorrow.
