Position Purpose
A senior Linux systems administrator is required to join the busy, highly skilled engineering team in our London office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and running systems to meet constantly growing requirements – both internally and on behalf of our clients. You must be able to cover a wide spectrum of tasks, from hands on configuration of RedHat/CentOS Linux systems, storage and networks, scripting and automation, through to technology selection and systems design.
Requirements
- Enthusiasm and passion for open source technologies and everything about them
- Experience of running and tuning PHP based websites
- PostgreSQL experience
- Ability to ensure Internal and Clients’ systems are delivered from scalable and reliable platforms
- Ability to select best of breed technology
- Ability to create practical, supportable systems
Preferred experience and skills
- Unix/Linux management experience (Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD will be advantage)
- Familiarity (ideally, experience) with terms: high-availability, high-performance
- Web servers - apache is a must; lighttpd, ngix will be advantage; using Squid as reverse proxy
- Mail systems - postfix preferably; overall understanding how mail systems are working
- DNS systems - bind; overall knowledge how DNS systems are working
- Databases - PostgreSQL is a must, MySQL will be advantage; PostgreSQL replication and performance tuning
- Directory services, ldap – OpenLDAP
- Monitoring systems - cacti, nagios
- Hands-on experience with virtualization and cloud technologies
- Backups and DR solutions
- Experience in maintaining a variety of Open Source and free software projects
- Experience working with non-technical business people, capturing and communicating requirements and time scales is desirable
