Support Engineer - System Administrator

Squiz is a young, exciting and growing company based in Shoreditch, London, with additional offices in Australia, New Zealand and Europe. We consult, build and manage engaging websites and online applications using The Squiz Suite which is an open source web experience management suite . Our clients include many household names and range from large global organisations to government bodies and charities.

We are are seeking the best talent to join our cross-functional support team with a focus on System Administration and DevOps principles, methods and practices.

You will be responsible for the websites, intranets, web platforms and infrastructure of our well known clients. You will deal with tasks ranging from investigations and interventions to ensure uptime, to re-platforming, to full system upgrades and also projects to provide enhancements and extensions to site functionality. You will crucially enable collaboration between development and operations. You will understand infrastructure from more application-centric perceptive and will be our clients' trusted adviser on anything they need assistance with day to day.

What you'll be doing:

  • Joining the Squiz community
  • Supporting/building state-of-the-art websites
  • Solving a huge range of problems
  • Managing software and automating configurations for servers (using Puppet/SVN)
  • Maintaining/enhancing PHP/PostgreSQL open-source applications

Desired skills:

  • Proven Linux sys admin experience (CentOS and other distro's)
  • Some programming knowledge (PHP, NodeJS etc)
  • Database experience (PostgreSQL and/or Oracle)
  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript
  • Apache/Squid
  • Understanding of CDN (content delivery network)
  • Strong customer service driven focus
  • Ability to clearly articulating processes and systems

Additional skills (you don't need these, but they would be good to have):

  • XML/XSLT
  • Cloud experience (AppLogic)
  • Memcached
  • Puppet
  • CVS/SVN
