New Open Source Social Networking Platform Software from Squiz
We’re mighty proud here at Squiz to announce today the general release of our MySource Matrix Open Source Social Networking Software Platform.
It might seem a bit of a mouthful at first, but it’s extremely cool stuff. We’ve been working night and day for the past few months to get it through beta and out into the public domain under an open source license.
But why the fanfare, you may ask...? Social Networks are two a penny, aren’t they?
Well, yes, but the fact that you can throw together a social network on a platform like Facebook or Ning in a nano-second has been awesome news for organisations (or people) who are looking to get some community action going off their own backs... But for most companies (or colleges, or universities or NGO’s) the skill in building a successful social networking platform is only partly in bringing people together.
The other side of the social networking coin - and the other huge thing to factor into the development of a successful platform - is....
Let’s say you’re a publisher (or a university, etc). You know the power of social networking ...Mobilising your subscribers/community with new content, having them interact in your front yard and contributing ideas and critiques on your products and services. They may even be up for swapping stuff amongst themselves, answering support Q’s, taking the heat out of potentially tricky situations, and generally being on side and part of your team.
All these concepts are great. You probably already have the audience to pull it off... But how are you going to get them there and keep them there?
The fact of the matter is that you need a great deal of resources to make a social networking platform fly.
For starters, you need to tell people about it and get them there. This is all about marketing and awareness and then the technical management (or porting) of your user base. Then you need to keep them there. Like a nice cocktail party at 8pm, it usually helps if there’s something to pass around - drinks and food, or in your case CONTENT. This is all about generating (or moving) some substantial content assets onto the social networking platform so that people can set about it, remix it, comment on it and pass it on. Nobody hangs around if there’s no action.
So, as the guy (or girl) who’s going to run your social network platform, you’d better have a big team (comms people and technical people) and deep pockets to get things going.... Or, you need a great way to do some smart systems integration with your existing user base and content.
And this is what the new MySource Matrix Open Source Social Networking Software Platform does for you.
...Which is why we’re only just joining the social networking party right now. In order to give you a fast start, fully integrated path to social networking heaven (without those pesky integration or audience building headaches), we’ve taken our time to get the development right.
Call us late, but we’re fashionably late: because we’ve got the right ticket and the know-how to make the your social networking party really SWING.
You can check out all the functional info on the MySource Matrix Open Source Social Networking Software Platform here.
PS: it’s also a great product for non-Matrix customers.
MEANTIME: we’re hosting a launch event for the new product in London on November 6th. Join us for some REAL social networking.....
