Open Source CMS Reviews: The Butler Group on MySource Matrix

Earlier this month, The Butler Group conducted an independent 'Technology Audit' of our enterprise-class open source CMS solution, MySource Matrix.... Their analysts sat down with the product for a good few weeks, pulled it apart and then put it back together again.

(If you don't know them already, The Butler Group is the IT End User division of Datamonitor Plc and is a leading provider of Information Technology research, analysis, and advice to leading organisations around the world.  You can find out more about them here.)

The result is a concise seven page Open Source CMS Review that describes the guts of MySource Matrix and how we deliver our solutions. And it's ready for download here, today!

Butler's Open Source CMS Review: What It'll Give You...

The report tells you how Matrix scrubs up on the following attributes:

  • Content editing (note:  they think we're easy to use)
  • Content structure (they like our 'asset-based' approach and how simple it makes life)
  • Workflow (they like it, but have some advice improving it - which we agree with.  Thanks guys!)
  • Open source licencing (they dig our GPL licence, and understand our SSV commercially supported version)
  • Collaboration (they approve of our approval processes)
  • Version control (a nice roll call for our 'roll back')
  • Integration (they give you a great view of the breadth of our connectors)
  • Standards and compliance (we pass)
  • Architecture (a nice independent view of how well we scale)
  • Our technology roadmap (they're fans of open source - and, importantly, commercially supported open source)
  • Our deployment methodology (a good, unbiased view of how we do things)
  • Our support, SLA's and training services (....we do all these things, don't you know!?)

Butler's Open Source CMS Review:  Even if You Don't Read it, Read This!

The Butler Group likes that fact that we're a commercial company that deliver an enterprise-class open source CMS with the option to take our corollary, paid-for, professional services (such as implementation, design and development support, training and SLA's).

Unlike community-based open source offerings, we give you the flexibility to either go it alone (via the GPL version of MySource Matrix) or take some help (via our SSV licence and professional services).  In other words, our brand of commercially supported open source gives you both the control of open source and the peace of mind of normal commercial software...

In Butler's words, web content management "is the type of market where commercial open source solutions are making inroads, particularly in the mid-range enterprise segment. There are a high number of open source WCM solutions, making this a competitive sector where vendors attempt to differentiate themselves through the implementation and support services that they offer, combined with a vibrant open source community that contributes code to the product."

If you're looking for an enterprise class open source CMS, it's a great accompanying piece to any research you might be doing...
